Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage / Medical Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised lymphatic massage technique that has been developed to improve medical conditions such as lymphoedema, where it forms an effective component of treatment.
Whilst there are several different methods, the main principle remains the same: to stimulate the lymphatic system and move the fluid from a congested, swollen area to an area of the body where the lymphatic vessels are working well. The MLD sequences, movements and pressures used are deeply relaxing and adapted for each client.
Other benefits may include:
Promotes the healing of damaged tissue, such as, torn ligaments and muscle injury
Reduces pain and bruising
Relieves other types of fluid congestion such as, swollen ankles and puffy eyes
Speeds up healing following cosmetic surgery
Improves chronic conditions such as sinusitis and arthritis
Improves and strengthens the immune system
Contraindications to MLD (when it is not safe to receive treatment):
Acute infections (such as cellulitis)
Viral infections (such as a cold or the flu)
High temperature
DVT & thrombosis (blood clot)
Active cancer treatment (such as radiotherapy)
Open wounds
